Kuba Textile Workshop

by Lucie Baseke Kaisala of Tamu Fashion

Lucie Baseke Kaisala of Tamu Fashion wants to introduce you to Kuba textiles from the Democratic Republic of Congo.  The Kuba textiles are made from raffia and are richly embroidered.

Lucie came into contact with Kuba textiles when she had to make an ethnic costume for the Academy. She did research at the Africa Museum in Tervuren and got so captivated by this material, the craft, the history, the meanings, that all her work as a print and fashion designer is inspired by Kuba textiles.
